Deadpool continued its reign atop the box office, with an estimated $56.47 million.

Deadpool continued its reign atop the box office, with an estimated $56.47 million.

Deadpool wisecracked its way to the top of box office for the second week in a row with an estimated $56.47 million. Deadpool has now earned $493 million worldwide and is now the highest grossing film in the X-Men franchise domestically (behind only Days of Future Past's worldwide gross of $747.8 million). Former box office behemoth Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still cracking the top ten in late February, coming in at #8 with $3.9 million. TFA has now grossed $2.03 billion worldwide. The space opera is still trying to topple James "King of The World" Cameron's Titanic and Avatar for highest grossing film of all time worldwide.

Newcomers had a tough time competing with the combined might Deadpool and Kung Fu Panda 3. Coming in at #3 was Risen, with $11.8 million. The manhunt-Christian-thriller will likely continue to hold strong, especially with Easter on the horizon.  Horror film The Witch finished in fourth with $8.8 million. The Witch, with a small $3.5 million budget, will easily turn a profit in the coming weeks. Finally Race (2016), the Jesse Owens biopic, finished in sixth place with a paltry $7.35 million. Race will be lucky to finish its run with $20 million. The Academy Awards are this Sunday, February 28, and Leo will continue to try to obtain that elusive Oscar gold. His latest Oscar bait, The Revenant, finished at #9 with $3.86 million. The Revenant has made $381.6 million worldwide, and will continue to bolster Leo's Oscar hopes in the final days.
